Building the Legends - Series in MINI Magazine 2009 and 2010
Mini Magazine reached out to us for a collaborative series on the building of our Italian Job Minis including a Special 40th Anniversary Interview Feature by David with Remy about the famous film stunts.
From initally watching the film at 8 years old, the idea of building a replica set was on the cards.
Fast forward many years later and the iconic film plates appeared at a classic car auction. After securing these critical iconic registrations, the need to build three replicas began.
As these Minis would be registered with the iconic registrations they had to be perfect. With the help of actors from the film we got into contact with Remy. From that point, we are indebted, as Remy provided critical information on the cars, photographs, details and parts that made this build possible.
After 3 years of building these replicas the icing on the cake was that Remy signed each Cooper as he stated that they were as accurate a set as he had every seen and wanted to mark this by signing the cars. As Remy stated ‘these are as good as you will get, 100% film correct in every detail… I only wished that the original Coopers had survived as I would have kept one’.
Remy stated that he and his team, created the need to constantly repair the Coopers, following hard use in the various stunts …. using a lockup located in Turin from which to swap parts between Coopers to keep the filming going, as there was a very limited budget.
